Garden Flowers in Early May

Our house is surrounded by plants and flowers. Here are some of the things blooming in our yard right now. These are Iris pseudacorus, the yellow flag iris. They've naturalized themselves around the pond.

The red trumpets are Hippeastrum x johnsonii, St. Joseph's Lily. These were here when we bought the property, and they had been blooming here for years unattended.

This Iris is called "Lady Friend", with Weigela in the background.

This old rose is a mystery. I received it in a swap several years ago. Does anyone know what it might be? It has bluish-purple undertones. MaryAnn wrote and gave a link to a rose that looks similar. Maybe this could be 'Alfred Colomb.' Check out the Antique Rose Emporium's photo

SO pretty! It's always interesting to see that NC is about 1 month ahead of Wa, with the spring season.

OH...I love all of the color. I wish I could grow flowers like that here. I don't know what that little bird is. There is a huge variety depending on migration.

I LOVE your collection of gorgeous flowers!! That pond is amazing as well!
I'm really jealous, flowers like that would wilt in the weather we have been having lately. Only 105 today...

Hi Lynn~

Oh! Your garden looks so beautiful! The purple iris are just exquisite! I'd still love to do a 'Artists in the garden' feature on you, your work and garden someday.

Happy gardening~

Check out this website, particularly this page. It's called the Alfred Colomb, I think. Sometimes lighting can be sticky. Since I moved to Texas I have haunted the old Antique Roses that are sold all over Texas and my first encounter was here at at the Antique Rose Emporium. The most hearty roses are the Antique Roses and it looks to me like you have one, and a beauty to boot! Loved the stroll through your garden and seeing all of the flowers. You've given me an idea to take pictures of all my roses that have gone bonkers this year. This is their first real year of growth and mama mia!

Thanks to all for your comments!

Karrita, Thanks for the reminder. I would love to be featured by you. Sorry, I get so sidetracked and need nudging sometimes!

MaryAnn, I haven't looked at that website in a long time, but will check it out. I would really love to know the name of this rose. Thanks much.
